Comments from Head Coach Shawn Larson
This was a very difficult night for us. We do not have the experience to compete in a dual like this. If I am being honest, we are very new up and down our lineup. Although it is factual that they are an older team with much more mat time, it is not an excuse for us to not compete. We are working at getting better, and there were some situations in which we have shown a little improvement from even last week. Our focus in the coming weeks will be on first period scoring, and reducing the amount of bonus point wins we are allowing.
Makota Misgen wrestled well tonight earning a fall and getting the team’s only points. Makota has worked hard in the off season, and it is paying off right now. Hopefully the team will look to Makota for some inspiration.
Our next competition will be on Saturday, December 10, in Byron for the Dave Scharberg Memorial Tournament. Wrestling begins at 10 am.
Lake Mills goes 2-0
Story by Head Coach Alex Brandenburg
In what was originally slated as a four-team event, Lake Mills traveled to Manly Monday night and picked up two dual wins. North Union was unable to attend, but the Bulldogs made the most of the night by defeating Central Springs and Saint Ansgar. In the opener, the team won nine of fourteen bouts to defeat Central Springs, 46-24. “The boys came out and wrestled really well in the first dual,” said Coach Alex Brandenburg. “We were much more aggressive than we were Saturday, and the results were positive because of it.” Saint Ansgar was up next for Lake Mills. Backed by ten wins in fourteen weights, the Bulldogs cruised to a 60-20 victory. “It was a good night overall,” Brandenburg said. “Our dual line-up is starting to come together, and the new additions tonight showed we can have a very good season.” With the wins, the team is currently 4-1 on the season.
