St. Olaf College Student Charged in Alleged Campus Attack Plan

(Northfield, MN)  —  A St. Olaf College student from Vermont is accused of planning an attack on the Northfield campus.  Rice County prosecutors charged 20-year-old Waylon Kurts with felonies including making terroristic threats, conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit threats of violence. Northfield police searched Kurts’ dorm room and found empty packages of high-capacity ammunition, a tactical vest, a pistol and two knives.  Investigators say they also recovered a notebook with a map of campus, a plan to steal ammunition, and a list of of St. Olaf security radio frequencies.  Kurts was arrested in the Twin Cities last Thursday.
