Southland High School student taken into custody after making threats Monday

A student at Southland High School in Adams was taken into custody after making threats toward other students Monday.

Mower County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Southland High School Monday after receiving a report of a 16-year old male student who was making threats to harm other students in shop class.  Upon arrival, deputies were advised that the student who made the threats had been separated from other students, and that no one had been injured during the incident.

Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik stated in a report that school staff advised deputies that several students had been threatened with a sharp object during a shop class,and the deputies learned that other verbal threats had also been made to others in the class.  Following an investigation, Sheriff Sandvik stated that the suspect was taken into custody, and placed in a juvenile holding facility pending charges deemed appropriate by the Mower County Attorney’s Office.
