Romantic Breakup Motive in Fatal Howard Lake Shooting

(Howard Lake, MN) — Investigators believe that a fatal workplace shooting in Howard Lake on Monday stemmed from a romantic break-up. Wright County prosecutors charged 23-year-old Kevin Ascencio of Glencoe with the second-degree murder of 20-year-old Adrian Medina from Lester Prairie. The criminal complaint says Ascencio’s wife told him that morning she wanted to end their relationship and he believed she was seeing Medina. They all worked at Dura Supreme Cabinetry. Officers say Ascencio went home to get a rifle, returned to find his wife and Medina getting into a vehicle, and shot Medina in the head. Ascencio’s next court hearing is Tuesday.
