Warm weather and somewhat dry conditions allowed for
3.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending
September 29, 2019, according to USDA’s National
Agricultural Statistics Service. The warmer than normal
temperatures across Minnesota aided crop development.
Field activities for the week included harvesting, fall
tillage, and terminating of cover crops. Small grain harvest
is very near its completion.

year and 2 weeks behind the 5-year average. Twenty-two
percent of corn was mature, 18 days behind last year and
2 weeks behind normal. Corn harvested for silage reached
43 percent this week, 13 days behind average. Corn
condition was rated 53 percent good to excellent, falling
slightly from the previous week. Ninety percent of
soybeans were turning color or beyond, 13 days behind last
year and 8 days behind the average. Sixty percent of
soybeans have begun dropping leaves, 12 days behind last
year and 8 days behind normal. Five percent of the soybean
crop has been harvested, 15 days behind last year and
11 days behind average Soybean condition was rated
56 percent good to excellent.
Spring wheat harvested reached 97 percent, nearly
1 month behind last year and 11 days behind average.
Dry edible beans dropping leaves or beyond reached
97 percent this week, on par with the average. Dry edible
beans harvested reached 39 percent this week, 2 weeks
behind the average. Dry edible bean condition rated
67 percent good to excellent, declining slightly from the
previous week. Sunflower condition rated 74 percent good
to excellent, improving from the previous week. Potatoes
harvested reached 59 percent, 4 days behind average.
Sugarbeet harvest was 16 percent complete, 1 day behind
last year and the 5-year average. Sugarbeet condition was
rated 81 percent good to excellent.
Pasture condition rated 59 percent good to excellent,
declining slightly from the previous week.
