Mayo Clinic Trials on New Electric Pulse Diabetes Treatments

(Rochester, MN) — Clinical trials are underway at the Mayo Clinic on a new diabetes treatment that could potentially eliminate needle sticks and insulin injections. Doctor Andrew Storm says they are using a new endoscopic tool with non-damaging electric pulses to re-set the small intestine. He says the electric pulses encourage regeneration of the lining of the small intestine which is an important signaling organ in diabetes and in control of our blood sugars. Doctor Storm says the procedure only takes 30 to 45 minutes and can help blood sugar levels drop over the long term.
