Jensen takes 30th, Mullenbach 58th at State Golf Tournament
(Story by Head Coach Shawn Riebe, pictured Mullenbach and Jensen)
Two Albert Lea girls golfers participated this week in the state golf tournament at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.
This was a great experience for these junior girls.  Alyssa Jensen shot 81 and 83 for a 164 to finish 30th in the field of 88 players.  Whitney Mullenbach shot 98 and 79 for 177 and a 58th place finish.
Alyssa played steady through the 2 days of tournament play.  She really felt she could have scored better and didn’t have her best game, but really put together a good couple rounds to finish right in that top third of the competition.  She has just been very steady like that all year.  She can take away a lot to be proud of this season.  Winning the conference and section tournaments is an amazing accomplishment.  Then finishing around that top third in state in her first visit there is solid.
Whitney struggled the first day with her swing and it shook her confidence a little, but to bounce back and knock 19 strokes off really shows some true grit.  She worked out her swing on the range before day 2 and showed how she can really play.  That second day score is very impressive.  She played much looser that 2nd day and really looked like the Whitney we saw this season.
This has been a very fun season seeing these two really put their names out there as great golfers in the state.  These girls work hard and play a lot of golf.  It is great to see that hard work pay off for them.  They are leaders on this golf team and I see their example influencing others on the team.  They will both be playing a lot this summer and I expect even bigger things next  year for the senior golfers.
