Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office investigating after report of shots fired outside the Geneva Bar and Grill early Saturday morning

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a report of shots fired outside of the Geneva Bar and Grill in Geneva early Saturday morning.

Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Tim Bennett reported in a news release that deputies were first dispatched at 12:50 a.m. Saturday morning, and the deputies were also notified that the suspect was a male who ran south from the bar after the incident.  Deputies spoke to several people that were still at the bar and learned that a fight had broken out inside the bar between approximately 10 people.  Sgt. Bennett stated that the fight then moved outside into the parking lot, where one of the males that was involved went to a vehicle, retrieved a handgun and fired two rounds in the air.  No one was injured from the shots, and Bennett stated that the male then left on foot after firing the shots.

Sgt. Bennett went on to state that just after the incident outside the bar, one of the vehicles that left the bar stopped at the intersection of Central Ave N and First St NE in Geneva to let a male cross the road. Once the male crossed the road and the truck continued, Bennett indicated that the male started to shoot at the truck.  The driver of the vehicle told deputies that four shots were fired, and he heard bullets striking his truck. The driver went on to state that he heard the passenger tire hissing and the tire lost air rapidly.  Sgt. Bennett stated that there were two people in the vehicle at the time it was struck, and neither individual was injured.

Sgt. Bennett stated that this is an active investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.  Bennett noted that this was an isolated incident, and he added that there is no threat to the community.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to please contact the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office at 507-377-5200 option 5.

Sgt. Bennett stated that more information will be released when it becomes available.
