Faribault Couple Admits to Role in $250 Million Feeding our Future Scheme
(Minneapolis, MN) — A couple from Faribault is pleading guilty to being part of the 250-million-dollar ‘Feeding Our Future’ fraud scheme. Federal prosecutors say Mohamed Ali Hussein and Lul Bashir Ali admitted to conspiring with others to obtain and misappropriate millions of dollars in federal child nutrition program funds. Court records say Hussein’s restaurant claimed to have served more than one-point-two million meals to children in 2021 and received two-point-one-million in federal funds. Ali’s company reported serving 700 thousand meals and getting nearly three million dollars in child nutrition funding. The judge ordered the couple to pay five million dollars in restitution and forfeit property and a vehicle. Their sentencing hearing hasn’t been scheduled.
