Court of Appeals Denies Rochester Man’s Request to Withdraw Murder Pleas

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Court of Appeals will not allow a Rochester man to change his guilty pleas in the 2020 murders of his pregnant girlfriend and her daughter. Renard Carter claimed in his appeal that his public defender forced him to admit to the killings of Kiona Foote, two-year-old Miyona Miller, and her unborn child. A district court denied his motion to withdraw his guilty pleas last December. A three-judge panel on Monday affirmed the lower court’s decision. Carter was sentenced to nearly 90 years in prison.
