Albert Lea man in custody after late Saturday morning shooting in northwest Austin
An Albert Lea man is in custody after a shooting in northwest Austin Saturday morning.
Austin Police responded to a firearms complaint at a residence at 1110 4th Avenue NW at 10:18 a.m. Saturday morning, and officers located an adult male victim at the scene who had suffered a gunshot wound. Chief of Police Dave McKichan reported in a news release that officers spoke with the victim and provided aid until Mayo Ambulance and the Austin Fire Department arrived to take over patient care. The victim was transported from the scene by Mayo Ambulance, and Chief McKichan indicated that a suspect, 34-year old Denroy Ashan Jeffers of Albert Lea was later taken into custody in connection with the incident.
McKichan stated that the case remains under investigation, as Austin Police are being assisted by the Mower County Sheriff’s Office. Chief McKichan stated that authorities believe the shooting to be an isolated domestic event, and he added that there is no ongoing danger to the public.
