St. Croix County Sheriff’s Deputy Fatally Shot by Drunken Driving Suspect

(Glenwood City, WI) — Another law enforcement officer is dead after a shooting Saturday night in western Wisconsin, about an hour from the Twin Cities. The state Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) says St. Croix County Sheriff’s Deputy Kaitie LeisingĀ  was fatally shot while responding to a report of a suspected drunken driver near Glenwood City. Investigators say 34-year-old Jeremiah Johnson refused Leising’s demands to take a sobriety test for eight minutes before shooting her. Deputy Leising died of her injuries in the hospital. Officers say Johnson was later found dead of a gunshot wound in a wooded area. This incident comes one month after police officers from Cameron and Chetek, Wisconsin were shot and killed during a traffic stop.
